The Australian Tang Soo Do Academy was established in 1987 in Melbourne, Australia as a traditional martial art school with emphasis on traditional training. This training is to gain self-defence skills, fitness, weight control while breathing techniques are practised to develop inner health. All students are expected to conduct themselves with humility, integrity, self-control and only use TSD for self-defence.
The Academy was the first affiliated WTSDA (USA) school in Australia from 1987 until 1993. In 1994 it joined the ITSD MDK Fed (UK) through the formation of the Australian Tang Soo Do MDK Federation (since dissolved). In 2001, the Academy’s members had a major part in organising the 9th ITSD MDK Fed. international championship held in Melbourne, Australia for the first time.
Since 2002, the Academy has been an independent school headed by founder and Chief Instructor, Master Ivan C H Tnay # 17072 who has over 50 years of martial arts training. In addition to Master Tnay, the other master instructors at the Academy are Master D Thompson and Master Brady assisted by black belt instructors.
The Academy through Master Tnay has contact with other TSD MDK master instructors/schools in USA, Canada, Malaysia, UK and Holland. Over the years, practitioners from different TSD MDK overseas groups have visited and trained at the Academy.
